In preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Dallas and the broader North Texas region are undertaking significant transportation initiatives to accommodate the influx of international visitors and ensure efficient mobility during the event.

Enhanced Rail Services

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is augmenting its capacity by leasing additional train cars from Minnesota’s Northstar rail line. This includes one locomotive, three coach cars, and a cab car, which will be utilized on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) to manage increased ridership during the tournament. Given that the TRE does not directly serve Arlington, DART plans to implement matchday shuttles and an extensive bus network to transport fans between rail stations and AT&T Stadium, the primary venue for the matches.

Integration of Autonomous Vehicles

Arlington, recognized as the largest U.S. city without a traditional public transportation system, is collaborating with autonomous vehicle company Mozee to introduce electric shuttles on fixed routes. These 12-passenger vehicles aim to facilitate movement between park-and-ride locations and event venues, offering an innovative solution to local transit challenges during the World Cup .

Comprehensive Transportation Planning

Monica Paul, Executive Director of the Dallas Sports Commission, is leading efforts to finalize a detailed transportation plan in coordination with the North Central Texas Council of Governments. This plan encompasses various modes of transit, including rail, shuttle buses, and pedestrian pathways, to ensure seamless connectivity between key locations such as airports, hotels, fan zones, and stadiums.

Strategic Infrastructure Investments

In addition to transportation enhancements, Dallas is investing in infrastructure to support World Cup-related activities. Fair Park is designated to host the FIFA Fan Festival, providing a central location for fans to congregate and engage with the event. Furthermore, the city is allocating $15 million for upgrades to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, positioning it as the International Broadcast Center for the tournament.

These concerted efforts underscore Dallas’s commitment to delivering a world-class experience for both local residents and international visitors during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
