In January 2025, Trinity Metro secured a $25 million RAISE (Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to extend its TEXRail commuter line into Fort Worth’s Near Southside neighborhood. This 2.1-mile expansion from downtown Fort Worth aims to enhance connectivity to the Medical District and the vibrant Magnolia and South Main corridors. The total project cost is estimated at $167 million, with approximately $20 million still needed to commence construction.
The extension will include a new station near Mistletoe Boulevard, along with infrastructure improvements such as upgraded rail crossings, culvert extensions, and enhanced pedestrian and bicycle access. Additionally, the downtown Fort Worth T&P Station platform will be reconstructed to accommodate the expansion.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve urban mobility and support economic development in Fort Worth, particularly in anticipation of significant population growth by 2050. The project is among 109 infrastructure developments funded nationwide to modernize transportation systems and promote sustainable urban growth.
