In November 2024, the North Central Texas Council of Governments launched an updated version of the 511DFW Travel Information System, a free, bilingual (English and Spanish) platform designed to assist North Texas travelers in navigating the region’s transportation network. Accessible via 511DFW.org and a mobile app for iOS and Android, the system offers real-time data on highway conditions, traffic speeds, toll lanes, construction zones, and transit routes.
The platform integrates information from local transit agencies, including Trinity Metro, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), and the Denton County Transportation Authority, providing multimodal trip planning options for driving, public transit, walking, and biking. It also features details on EV charging stations, off-road trails, and special events.
A notable feature is the “talk to me” function, which audibly relays traffic updates and road closures, enhancing accessibility for users. Additionally, the app facilitates location-based roadside assistance by connecting users with Mobility Assistance Patrols in cases such as vehicle breakdowns.
Transportation officials anticipate further enhancements to the system, including the addition of parking information and alerts for low-water crossings, aiming to support the region’s growing population and evolving mobility needs.
