In April 2025, Fort Worth and Arlington initiated a collaborative effort to assess the economic impact of a proposed high-speed rail line connecting North Texas’s major cities along the Interstate 30 corridor. Fort Worth committed up to $75,000, while Arlington allocated approximately $183,750 for the study. Dallas was invited to participate but did not respond; however, it had previously allocated $567,000 for its own related study.
The envisioned rail line aims to link Fort Worth, Arlington, and Dallas, enhancing regional connectivity and potentially integrating with the proposed Houston-to-Dallas high-speed rail project, now a private venture led by Kleinheinz Capital Partners. If realized, the combined network could facilitate travel speeds of around 140 miles per hour over a 271-mile route.
Local leaders, including Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker and Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, view the project as transformative for regional transportation and economic development, particularly benefiting tourism and major venues like AT&T Stadium and the Fort Worth Stockyards.
This initiative reflects North Texas’s proactive approach to addressing anticipated population growth, projected to exceed 15 million by 2050, by investing in advanced transportation infrastructure.
